All the Fun of the Faire!

Alt Faire! Yummy! I've always tended to describe myself rather ambiguously as "alternative". Alternative to what, I don't know, but it's more of a cover-all term than say "goth" or "punk" or "ninja-pirate". "Alternative" pretty much says "normal? HUMBUG" and leaves it comfortably at that. And that's allll good with me.
And to that note - Yay! Alt Faire! Another big for-charity show, but one right up my street, hosted at the four corners of some of my favourite stores, and featuring some of my favourite designers, and a whole load more wonderful talent to boot. Of course, I'm boring an unoriginal and will be showing my usual suspects, but there's a vast array of quirky awesomeness to be found there.
I also like the charity that the Alt Faire benefits, Nothing But Nets. It's a simple concept, distributing mosquito nets in Africa, to help stop the spread of malaria. My own experiences with malaria are very light and British, mind you. My mother spent some childhood years living in Singapore, where mosquito nets were a necessity at the time, so she has all sorts of practical experience with the things. Also, in World War 2, my father's father was a pilot in the RAF, stationed in North Africa, but never saw combat, due to contracting malaria and having to be sent home. He was fine, of course, and my father was born which enabled me to be born, which allows you-the-reader to be sitting here reading my ramblings. The point is, thousands every day fall prey to the disease, and do not survive, but many of these deaths can be prevented with a simple mosquito net to keep the carriers of malaria away at night.
So it's all for a lovely cause! Yay!

As threatened, here is some silentsparrow! Exclusively for the Alt Faire, hya has made a special version of her stunning Mourna dress, named Mourn, only available in purple. Instead of the open-sided silk-like bustled skirt of Mourna, Mourn has a beautifully-moving full calf-length skirt, with a shock of purple lace forming the front and underskirt. Also, instead of having a halter-style top, it is sleeveless, with sexy straps across the back. In my scandallously skirtless pic, I am wearing the other exclusive from silentsparrow for the Alt Faire, the Ash Batty Knitty Sweater (five times fast, try it) and matching socks. My leopard-print tattoo is from silentsparrow's Melody Lee Fantasy Faire exclusive, but I have it on good authority there'll be more on the Fantasy Faire on this blog later. *nods*

The second of my oft-blogged favourites is Schadenfreude's exclusive, the Teal Skunk Electro-Cute dress. If you do not know about Allegory Malaprop's Electro-Cute line, what is wrong with you? Cutey-cute hand-drawn cuties, on all sorts of wearables, jewelery, shirts, DRESSES. And this one is a skunk with a pompadour. An adorable skunk with a pompadour. A SKUNK WITH A POMPADOUR PEOPLE! Why are you still reading this? Go buy it! A SKUNK WITH A POMPADOUR! I'll allow you to continue if you already have it, or promise to do so in the next hour. No excuses if you're a boy, she has manly 'beaters with it on them too. But if you get that, you miss out on the awesome black and white frilly sculpted skirt. And that's a tragedy.

Straying away from my usuals - I am simply just WILD for Mango, Mango!'s Doll skins, another Alt Faire exclusive. I've admired Sileny Noel's skins for a while now, but these, these are just love. they make me look like a cross between a silent film star and a porcelain doll. Simply adore the makeups, the bold eye colouring and the exaggerated cupid's bow of the lips. The one time I attempted to make a skin, the lips were in a similar style to these. Not as pretty, mind you, I'm kinda not very artistic, but the same general effect.
My boots are another Faire find, this time from Ducknipple. I have an ancient Space Invaders dress from that store from perhaps two years ago, and had forgotten all about them, so you can imagine how impressed I was when I found that they were still around and oh-so-good.

The Alt Faire runs from today until May 2nd, and can be found lurking across the four corners of the Nomine, New Kadath, Pulse and Snatch City sims. Do bear in mind that these are working sims, and be prepared for some lag, accordingly. Use common sense! And dig deep for Nothing But Nets

Silentsparrow Month! Day 27-28! - Theend

My last Silentsparrow February post is going to be another doublepost. On Saturday I was preoccupied due to not wanting to go to a wedding. I don't much like weddings, especially those of people I don't know (in this case, my husband's boss). So we made an excuse to not go, but I married a bloody boyscout, who doesn't like to use people as false excuses, and so I spent much of yesterday trying to teach my daughter how to ride a bike (with stabilizers). I think whoever coined the term "Like riding a bike" didn't figure 6 year olds into the matter. This was the third time we'd taken her out on the bike she got for Christmas, and each time, she has NO idea what to do when faced with having to pedal. By the time we're on our way home, she's got the hang of it, more or less, but then the next time we take her out, it's back to square one and I find myself repeating "Move your legs! Like you're running! One after the other! Keep going, not backwards!". At this rate, we should be ready to take the stabilizers off by the time she's, ooh, 15? Then it was a Pixar shorts DVD and Wii Fit and paranoia at the hands of the chavs who harrassed and confused me while we were out, for the rest of the day. See, look at that! I have no qualms using other people as excuses. As I was barely on SL yesterday, my outfit for this part is a somewhat arbitrary collection of pretty pieces.

First of all, the skirt. The Bustle. The bustley, skirty thingy. The skirt is from a suite I've mentioned a few times in this series of posts, the Severina Suite. I'm a great fan of short skirts with a train-y bit, and this one is glorious. It has a big sculpted ruffle at the hips, which cascades down at the back into a burlesque-tastic...skirty bustley thingy. It's yummy. And named for a very nice lady. Who does not have button eyes. With it is the lovely Shruggie in Ash, with bell sleeves and a turtleneck collar. You can't see it well in my pictures, but it's got big bandy stripes on the sleeves. It's a wonderful piece that can be dressed up or down and worn with just about anything you can think of. Really, I am thinking right now and can't think of anything it wouldn't look great with in one colour or another. Even a SPACESUIT *makes note: "badger hya about making a silentsparrow spacesuit"*. Under THAT, I am wearing the corset from the Ritual Suite, in Ash, again. I wore the Penny Ritual skirt the other day, this is the pretty top that goes with it. It has a beautiful, slightly ruched, silk-effect texture, with fantastic boning down the front, and flatteringly shaped cups that suit any size of bust. The whimsical lacing, if it can be so called, at the back is my favourite part of it, though. It's pretty leafy twigs! With my shruggie, I've covered another nice detail of it, the lacey drapings over the shoulders and front, which you can just about spot, peeping out underneath. Ooh, and, my skin! My skin is the preview of Schadenfreude's upcoming new skins, which boast a reworked nose and collarbone and softer, more porcelain-doll like texturing, among many other improvements, and I'm very excited to see more of these. I'm *ahem* not sure of where it can be got yet. But I'll be sure to ask! My entire head is by Schadenfreude. That's pretty awesome.

And so onto this day, Sunday. One of the reasons I logged on briefly yesterday was because of a silentsparrow group notice telling of a new Limited Edition outfit! Not a hunt, just a single, out there to buy, limited edition outfit, being released in four waves of 25 (the other reason was that my bunny monitor said I had a new nest, it was mistaken, it had found an old nest of mine - Bah!). Of course, I missed the first wave of releases, and a friend very kindly offered to pick me one up when the next wave happened (they're transfer!). Relatively short story shorter, I now and the proud owner of the Blood Ritual Tunic Set, the husband or brother or son or some sort of male or tomboyish female relative of the suite from which the corset I was wearing earlier came from.
It makes me feel pleasantly Joan of Arc-ish to wear this, but like, less crazy and French. Maybe like Joan of Arc was in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. But still less French. I can't help but feel like in my pics I've made it look like a shorts-and-tights ensemble, which is very nice but not what it is. Instead, it is, as the name might suggest, a tunic and tights set. What I've made look like ornate shorts, are in fact the sculpted bottom part of the tunic. What look like tights are tights, but in the Men in Tights style of tights, I've shown them off in brown on here, before. Remember when I made you stare at my crotch? Yes, I know there's been a few times...I still respect you though. As a person, you know. Then there's a rich deep red velvet top, at the awesome suedey half-jacket, which I would buy the outfit for, alone. it has sculpted shoulder caps, and the same viney pattern that formed the back of the corset I was wearing before. My hair was a Stumblebum exclusive from Clawtooth, which you may have just missed, I think. It's the first hair from Clawtooth I've seen with flex, and is very, very nice, it moves prettily and I'm all for braids in semi-random places. But back to my pretty suit, when last I looked, there were a few left from the third wave of release, which means you can either try your luck now (this was a few hours back I checked) or wait for the final release wave. Hang out at silentsparrow if you're the keen type. And of course, join the Twittery Birds group, to keep updated about this sort of thing and all the other sorts of things and and and things!

Silentsparrow Month! Day 26 - Niv The Desk Potato

Christmas came late today! I'd been given a cheque last Christmas and with it, we decided we would buy WiiFit Plus. However, of course, it being just after Christmas, there was what was described woefully by the people in the various game shops as a "worldwide shortage" of the balance boards. But today, that shortage ended! Or, maybe some days ago, I dunno. Point is, at lunch time today my husband came in proudly bearing an enormous bag from Game, and as a direct result of this, I have spent the majority of this afternoon variously wobbling across tightropes, hoola-ing hoops, and running around after cats, among other adventures. Being quite the desk potato (I don't watch much TV, but gosh do I ever have a healthy monitor tan), I am now pleasantly tired and mildly sore. I choose to also attribute this in part to how badly attired I was for the whole affair. I have a tendency to wear trousers that are at least two inches too long for me, which means I was constantly stepping on my hems and stumbling and being a perfectionist and having to start all over again. Another downside to my adorable style of RL dress is that when it rains, I get very very wet. But that's another story. Anyway, due to this, I have come to resent my trousers today, and chose to dress Niv in something a bit more sporty. Being, of course, lazy as I am, I have done it wrong. And here it the result!

Of course, it's quite hard to find "sporty" clothes in even the most extensive silentsparrow wardrobe, it's somewhat the antithesis of what hya does. So I lamed out, and went for SHORTS. These happy plaid shorts are from the Cuttles outfit, from whose sibling sets I've worn some stuff in older posts (WOW that was an awkwardly written sentence). It's not shown so well in my pics, but the cuffs of these are very cute, lightly scalloped, and all sorts of orange. My T-shirt is another delight from the Bird of Randomness in the silentsparrow courtyard, the larger of the two birds, for this one. It's the Deep Sea Creatures t-shirt, again in a shade of purple I really, really like. I also have particular fondness for the artwork, I had it as my desktop for a while after hya posted the pic on Plurk. With a big border of black around it. Very deep-sea-ish. And look! A little seahorsey sneaked round the back. Small things amuse me. My socks came from a semi-fruitless search for lower-leg wear that wasn't stockings OR plain dress socks. In the end I settled for the (frost) Wrath Stockings from a group gift that is no longer available. Sorry! But to dress them up, I veered into my daring "Not silentsparrow" category, and throw on these adorable legwarmers from Concrete Flowers. Look! They have carrots and bunnies on them and don't really go with the rest of the outfit! :D That's just how cool I am.

Silentsparrow Month! Day 14 - Happy You Know What!

Brief post (for me), unlike many of the cynics who hate Valentines Day, I'm a happy, thoroughly spoiled girl today, and wish to continue the nauseatingly cute whirl of presents and kisses of the day! It's still a bit of a novelty to me, as my ex was not the romantic type at all, while today I was given a giant (like, dude, seriously, two foot tall) card, a gigantic, delightfully tacky heart shaped box of chocolates, and various other greatness. It's nice to love and be loved in return. Possibly, and this is, I assure you, a completely original statement, not quoted from any neuveau musical movies, the greatest thing you'll ever learn. Is...that thing I just said. See, it wasn't a quote, I mangled it, with awkwardness!

Independently from Persephone, my post today is also Stumblebum Brigade based! This round of Stumblebum goes on for the whole week, so I don't have to feel too bad about posting about it late on a Sunday, you still have plenty of time to grab these goodies. When hya told me she and Allegory were conspiring again for this week, and it would be PINK, Iwaslike "RAAAAAGE!" but it turned out that I was, as I so often am, wrong. If this is pink, I bloody like it! It's dusky and dark and a bit like a red wine stain, but without the headache of it being a stain. The corset and OMG SO TINY skirt are from silentsparrow's new Kurai Tart sets, and wonderfully, you can buy the pieces seperately, or you can buy them in an outfit set, and there are also delightful chunky armwarmers in the ensemble. When the regular colours were released, I was told I could wear the Chapiteau bloomers underneath in order to feel less naked. I did so. I'm not used to my bottom being visiible in silentsparrow! But these are beautifully made little skirts, sculpted, with sexy little knickers to go underneath, I've already enthused about my love for the spirally brocade pattern of the Kurai sets, and this is absolutely no exception. Now, given my adoration of armwarmers, it might seem odd that I'm not wearing the ones that match this, but instead I'm sporting the jacket and stockings from Allegory Malaprop of Schadenfreude's Stumblebum exclusive offering, I love the loose stitching on the arms of the jacket, and the stockings make me feel ever so much less naked, and besides that, Alle's Lucent heels have a colour option that matches PERFECTLY. In a departure from my usual style, I'm wearing one of Schadenfreude's prizes from the Starlust VD hunt, the pink Heartflake eyes, if you click the fullsize of the pucture, you'll be able to see the pretty pretty overlapping hearts that form the detail of these eyes. My usual eyes from this line are made of trees! My skin, I ADORE. It's a Valentine's Day gift from Nomine, and is of the Primrose line, and has that very fashionable at the moment style of lipstick, but also, look! FRECKLES! Beautiful, beautiful freckles. Like, really nicely done. Want. Want moar freckles. I hope there will be more freckles on Nomine skins, I'm all about the freckles. Anyway most of these things are totally limited edition, so go get them NOW! Also, you know - Love each other always!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Yes, this is Valentine's Day. But February 14, 2010, is also the Chinese New Year. In honor of the Year of the Tiger, I would like to present five Asian themed outfits from five of Second Life's exciting designers.

First, I present Tang from !Terra D'ombrA. maizon Rayna is an amazing designer who is not only creative, but understands how clothing should flow over a woman's body.

This dress is feminine, functional and fun! The soft Asian-styled texture does not overpower you, but adds to the natural grace of the wearer.

The high necked, sleeveless top, capri length pants and open skirt all combine for a classic look. This is an outfit you can wear every day and never grow tired of it.

maizon is also an excellent jewelry designer! The belt is sold with the Tang dress. The necklace and earrings are her Etrusca set. A perfect match to the dress. Zhao Shoes' Clover adds to the charm of this Chinese themed dress.

Be sure to stop in at !Terra D'ombrA today and look at her other stunning designs.

When you hear the name Angel Dessous, most people immediately think lingerie. They are, of course well known for their sexy intimate wear, but take a look at Misaki Asia.

This is a breath-taking gown combining unique textures and accents into a stunning presentation. A large black bow in back, black opera length gloves and a very imaginative fan and flower shoulder attachment add to the charm. Be sure to check all 7 colors of the Misaki dress! Each is a work or art.

Alienbear's Ambroisa II black Pearl set seems made for this dress, as well as Indyra Original's Coquette Noir Shoe Medaille Pharaoh's Gold pumps.

Finally, I could not resist using Tukinowaguma's Nastassja hair to create an elegant look for a New Year celebration.

Never again will I think of lingerie when I hear Angel Dessou.

Tradition meets futuristic in Nomine's Cyber Cheongsam. Munchflower Zaius blended the cheongsam styled top with a seductive and sexy skirt to create a fantasy outfit to rival the best.

Again, we have a designer who has managed to find incredible textures that bring to life the Chinese design.

The top, traditional looking from the front has a surprisingly open back with criss-crossing corset strings. The skirt, two wide panels front and back, completely exposes the legs in a sexy and provocative way. From the open fingered, opera length gloves hang wrist to elbow sleeves that hang to the floor.

Only addition to this striking ensemble is enkythings' Fujin Saena pumps.

Cyber Cheongsam brilliantly brings eastern culture together with Sci Fi.

Bare Rose is very well known for having any theme outfit you could dream up. And today is no exception.

Zeku is an adorable and sweet pant suit with a high-waisted flexi duster jacket that goes all the way to the floor. The texture is a beautiful flower print in 4 rich colors in the one outfit. That's right - 4 colors for the price of 1!

As long as the jacket length is, the top is cut high just below the breasts with flexi ties holding it closed and leaving the midsection coyly exposed.

Matching belted pants and choker complete this sweet and innocent look.

Finally, what Chinese Dynasty would be complete without an Empress! Of course I am speaking of Nicky Ree's Tang Empress gown.

Available in 8 vibrant colors, any woman would be a queen dressed in this gorgeous gown.

Wear it in full royal form or as a long sleek evening gown.

Bijoux Or Design's Christine set gold/green is the ideal accent for this Gem of the Orient.

Whether celebrating the Chinese New Year in casual or formal wear, celebrate in style!

Taking a Tumble for Stumblebum

I love the look of Goth. Its actually more then a look, its a lifestyle. But I fear I will constantly be on the outside looking in. Still I try and with the help of this new Stumblebum Edition of a Dress by Munchflower Zaius of Nomine, I may have reached the point of at least looking passable.

I have opted not to hunt the grid for a "Gothic" setting. Rather I stayed lazy and took it in Nivaya and I's little bunny meadow. In the backround is the new Hearts Desire Tree by Botanical. This tree is scripted with options to drop its heart shaped leaves and has a little carved heart that you can write things in.

To accessorize my look, I pulled out a few things in my inventory that don't get worn often. The boots are by Nevermore, I have had them since I first joined and they STILL look amazing. She is doing her stuff online now and her boots and clothing can be found online at Sovereigncrux.com At only 125L the boots are an absoulte steal!

Rounding it off I grabbed one of the new Cupid skins from Gala a classic hair called Epona from Calico Creations and the Glazed Heart (color change) Necklace from Accessories by Eolande.

If you want this great Stumblebum Exclusive dress from Nomine, run don't walk to her shop today!

So Happy Valentines day from the Dressing in Pixels staff. Think of this day to be not only for romantic lovers. But a day to celebrate love in all is wonderful facets.

Luxurious Lingerie for Valentine's Day

I admit it! There are days I want to feel all soft and feminine. So I would like to present five sexy sets of lingerie from five gifted designers perfect to catch the eye of that special person in your life. Hey, wear it just for yourself!

First from SOLANGE! Fashions, Nightlife Lace Lingerie in white. Any groom would be awestruck to see his bride wearing this exquisite design.

This can be worn in a number of combinations; from bra and panties, to a teddie (shown here), or to a corset, with or without the bra. Change the style to change your mood!

Please don't be fooled by the bridal white. Nightlife is available in 9 different colors.

Partnered with Alienbear's Ambroisa II white pearl jewelry set, lacy white Lolita Crown cuffs from ezura and the sweetest pumps from Tribal Bamboo called Like A Princess.

You will feel like a Princess wearing Nightlife.

Next, I present a colorful ensemble from Nicky Ree called Summer Jenna.
Early to bed, but late to rise if you wear this alluring outfit.

Seen here in red, you can choose from 9 rich and vibrant colors. As always, Nicky Ree finds amazing textures and colors.

Paired with Stiletto Moody's Pinup pumps, you will turn the head of anyone who sees you.

Let your hair down and lounge around the house.

OK, I admit it. I have a dark side, just like everyone else. A girl needs something wicked now and again.

And I could not resist when I saw Dark Temptation from Alphamale & Blacklace. Feeling oh so sinfully sultry in this black leather teddie. Laced leather gauntlet gloves and black fishnet stockings brought out the devil in me. Available in 3 colors.

Once again, Stiletto Moody's Pinup pumps (what a perfect name for these shoes) and daring necklace called Nornir from +ROZOREGALIA+, you can be ready for a wild night!

Who ever said less is more had in mind Ophelia from Nomine. Bare more than a little skin in this lacy duster that covers the necessities, but not much more. You'll tease that special person in your life when you walk into the room wearing this.

The outfit is made from beautiful off-white lace from the duster with its flexi jacket and wrist cuffs to the thong panties.

A bit of glitter from ~Muse~ Triste Coeur necklace and earrings and Zhao Shoes color changing Bella pumps adds to the soft and feminine mystique of this lovely negligee.

Last, but certainly not least, a new release from Son!a Luxury Fashion - Flirt! Aptly named, this lusty lingerie can go from bedroom to ballroom by adding the short skirt (as shown) or a full length skirt.

The sheer gauntlet gloves and stockings with garters and sheer black lace teddie, both accented with that touch of diamond, add an elegance to this seductive ensemble. Choose from 4 delicious colors.

The Medaille Coquette Noir shoes from Indyra Originals and Black Tie Affair choker and earrings from P&M Designs add to the sparkle.

Whether you prefer soft and romantic or wild and wicked, this Valentine's Day lingerie collection will make even the strongest hearts race.

Silentsparrow Month! Day 9 - Rookerations!

Last night was the grand opening of the Rookery, a new gothy hermit club on the silentsparrow sim, owned by hyasynth, Allegory Malaprop of Schadenfreude, Azazeal Whitfield of October Rust and I think that's it? Azazeal's jaw-dropping build teemed with some of the most gorgeous, talented, charming and well-dressed avatars this side of um...well, there was a whole lot of cool right there, and a rather delightful porcupine too. Conversation ranged from baked potatoes (informative!) to giant viking peen (also informative!), with interludes of bunnies, slightly drunk Achariya, how genuinely beautiful everyone looked, and how sexy the voices of the DJs were. And they were! Azazeal and Mourna Biziou provided some thoroughly excellent music, and vocal candy in-between, and after I crawled off to bed at the sensible hour of 4.30am, the everso cool Recidivist Sideways took over the musicings. I didn't get pictures. I'm far too lame to take pictures. Although, I only crashed once, the whole night! For people wondering "How do I get to this wonderland, this hermit commune, this Tim Burton Viking Hall?", I shall tell you! From nomming on delicious mushrooms in the courtyard of the silentsparrow mainstore, that's how! There's a sign next to them that says "Rookery". Do not try to sit on this sign. It is pointy.

So! Today I treat you to my look from last night! I like to think of it as a sort of clubbing burlesque cutie lederhosen perhaps? I'm wrong to think of it that way, but there it is. I am sporting the hotpants from the Toxine Suite, the same Cocoa one I showed the skirt from yesterday, which have the verdigris cogs and sprockets and gears and...so on, at the waistband and cuffs, and shading on the behind that does not look like you shoved some cantaloupe halves in your pants, and furthermore, a rarity in SL these days, cover your whole bottom. My corset is the Starbunny Chapiteau coset, which was worn by no less than three of us last night at the Rookery, but that was okay, because everyone there was marvellous and we all wore it quite differently and there were no catfights (well, maybe one, but it was rather comical). The Starbunny Chapiteau pieces (tops, skirts&bloomers, locket and top hat) are available exclusively at the Ozimals mainstore, and are based on the SQUEEFULLY CUTE Elite Ozimals bunnies, whose pattern was designed by hya. Mark my words, one day, one shall be mine! Under my corset, to spare my boobies from the public eye, I am wearing another corset, the Luxe corset in Ocean, which, I love the way the little bows peek up at the back. My legwarmers are another Limited Edition goodie, from the CielNoir set, which can still be got in red as RougeNoir, as with the pretty orange corset in my Day 3 post. The tattoos are the faded Sleeve versions of the Song of Anubis tattoo set, the un-faded are incredibly, unashamedly bright and colourful, all scarabs and ankhs and vines and has a ton of options besides faded and unfaded, including with sleeves, without sleeves, full upper body, hand and feet (there's even ink on the palms). The beautiful Someplace to be Flying necklace completes the look, especially in the name of the club. A quick word about my ears, which you may notice are not my normal Fey ears, these are the Schadenfreude MerElf ears, which I put on in concession to seamonsters when I was visiting the incredible Innsmouth sim, well worth a look, even if you don't know Lovecraft.

Silentsparrow Month! Day 8 - Gloves and Sprockets

Right now I'm listening to Richard Cheese's version of Only Happy When it Rains. It cheers me, but it made it very hard to not to name this something to do with rain. To compensate for this, I took an extra picture, think yourself lucky I stopped at that and didn't redo ALL the pictures, as I was tempted to, but then laziness prevailed, as it so often does with me. Look at me with my umbrella. It's raining. I don't look that happy though, I look perturbed more than anything. Maybe because the rain is coming FROM my umbrella. At least here, the rain is coming from the sky, it's penetrated my soul somewhat, I dressed my PoupeeGirl in rainwear today too. It's a nice umbrella though. I got it from the Gatcha festival at Albero in October.

To more sparrow-y matters, though! Today I am sporting either things that grabbed my love instantly, or took a while for me to warm up to but have captured my heart. It's a theme! First off, the skirt. The skirt is from the Toxine Suite. I waited with immense excitement for the Toxine Suite to be released, after falling head over heels with the Suit version. But at the time, we twittery birds were in a Suite drought, because hya, Allegory and Draconic Lioncourt of Draconic Kiss were having a fashion show, and all the Suites to match suits were being released then. When the day of the show came, I bought some L$. Due to lag, I bought some L$ three times. It's the only time I've had over 10k in Second Life. I had no problems spending it though, I never do. and that's the reason why. But anyway. Toxine. I don't do steampunk well, but I love the aesthetic of it. Cogs and sprockets and rust and love. Toxine has all these things, and the Cocoa version is, in my opinion, something special. I've always loved the look of verdigris, the contrast in the brown and the blue, and the Cocoa Toxine liek, totally has that! I've also spent countless hours trying to catch all the Toxine Swim Suites at the silentsparrow fishing spot. I like Toxine. Oh and check out the stunning tattoo that comes with it! Subtle at the front, elaborate at the back. Yay!
Onto something released at roughly the same time which for a long time I managed to resist. My top is from How We Quit the Forest, a dress everyone seemed to love but me, I didn't like the skirt. I felt quite left out. And so should I have, I was wrong! When I finally cracked and bought it, it was for the armwarmers, I'm a fiend for armwarmers, in SL and RL, my arms, they're shy and chilly creatures. But when I actually looked at what was in there, I realized what a fool I had been. For a start, the 3/4 sleeve undershirt with it is totally invaluable. And look at the beautiful antique lace shirt. I now love How We Quit the Forest, it feels nice to be right.
Over it, I'm wearing the corset from the recent Datura set, bloomers from which I wore in yesterday's post, in a different colour. The Mint Datura corset has a similar verdigris effect to it on the aged brocade, and is terribly, terribly pretty. Datura gets to go in the Love at First Sight column. Finally, back to the slow-burning category, my gloves. Oh, my gloves. They are from the Nemu suit, which was released at a time I was out of SL, dutifully bought one of when I got back, and never really looked at. It wasn't until last week when I was checking out the Suit Sale (finishes tomorrow!) that something caught my eye as I was peering round in a buying frenzy. I'm such a nerd. Gloves. Fingerless gloves. With BUTTONS. They're like spats for the hands! I used to have gloves like that in real life! Vintage, thin brown suede, I wore them until they fell apart, and fall apart they did. But these, these will live forever, or at least until whatever it is at any given time people are saying will be THE END OF SL turns out to be the case. Which will never happen. Turns out the suit I never really looked at is beautiful, too. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED IT?
So anyway, rather more rambley than usual, I suggest you go YouTube Richard Cheese's version of I'm Only Happy When it Rains. It's lovely.

Just under a month of Silentsparrow!! Day 1(ish)

Oh plans! I had such plans. They were great plans. Well laid, too. THE BESTLY laid, one could say, if bestly was a word. Which it isn't. But alas, they fell by the wayside. That's where the best laid plans fall, you know. It's convenient because at least you know where to pick them up. The plan was, for every day of February, I would blog only clothing from my beloved silentsparrow (with guest stars, of course! Girl cannot live on sparrow alone). But being the delightfully disorganized mess that I am, I forgot that yesterday, being February 1st, was the first day of February. These things pass me by. So, now, it's every day of February except yesterday and other days I forget! I'm sure I will.

To kick off, I must show off something that makes people who know me throw their hands in the air and wonder what the world is coming to! It's PINK! I am wearing it. By choice! A conversation between myself, hya, and the delicious Achariya has made me realize that I hate pink. Except when hya does it, and even then, I have to make excuses. Item: Last year's Lust lucky chair sets (but that was a red sort of pink). Item: The Candy Nephilim Suite for RFL (but that was for charity!). Item: All the pink things from all the LE hunts! (but I'm a COLLECTOR!).
This, I had no excuse for. It's just so PRETTY! It's the Rose Twittery Bird Lucky Chair Suite.
Comprised of a corset and top combo, and gloves from the Datura set (and a brooch, I love these brooches that keep popping up), shorties and lolita skirt from the Chapiteau bottoms set, and stockings from the Lottie suite, AND a tintable tattoo of a classic rose (also on the skirt), all done up in a yumsome raspberry pink - which makes me want candy and there's an old fashioned candy store right up the street, I could go but I assume they've just closed for the day.
As the name might suggest, to the astute of you, it's in the lucky chair. Which is group only. The group costs 250L to join, and you MUST join it, hya regularly gives out gorgeous gifties, she likes to spoil is, so it's very worth the joining fee.
I've gone bald to show off the other yummies I've been rockin' for the past few days. These Etherial Fey ears are a collboration between Allegory Malaprop of Schadenfreude (who made the ears themselves) and Saiyge Lotus of Balderdash (who made the beautiful swirly jewelry on this set). These and the regular varieties of Allegory's Fey ears are now MY EARS. Go buy them, a billion options, all wonderful. Closer inspection of this pic will also show the detail of the gorgeous Treeflake eyes from Schadenfreude.
And LOOK at the perfect softness of the new(ish) Primrose skins from Nomine. Do Love. I've been totally living in these, they make me feel like a big fleshy rose petal, they feel velvetty soft to look at. Which doesn't make any sense, but why should it? The shading of the facial features is wonderful, I love the width of the nose, and how the lips are full without looking like they were stolen from a small child. The makeups are subtle and flawless, and the skins come with 4 different eyebrow colours, so now, the curtains and....eye...curtains..? can match on me, the redhead! Yay!

Shop at the following, to be lovely! silentsparrow , Schadenfreude , Balderdash and Nomine

Summer Hits and Gypsy Bliss

So I am not in a creative frame of mind. I have new stuff to show off and that is exactly what I am going to do now!

I am a bad model, I work for the lovely Indyra Seigo of Indyra Originals and I know I should be showing off more of her great new releases.

This one is a New/Old Release. The Vida Dress originally come in Black and White and I always love this mini-dress with just a hint of sheer without being over the top. Many customers asked for more colors and Indyra delivered beautiful colors perfect for Summer. Featured here is Vida in Skittles Green combined with her Clarissa Shoes in Silver. All the accessories are from Indyra Orignals too.

I find I am wearing a lot more flats and capri's right now and the Luna Top by Leah McCullough is a step above the simple tank tip with it's brightly colored Hibiscus on the side. I have paired this with my fave cargo short from Malt.

Then Today Munchflower Zaius of Nomine released some additional pieces for her Gypsy Connection. I could say I gushed or I swooned, but that would be exaggerating. However, I do love this, her details and primwork is impeccable. I combined it with the Gitana top in White From Naive and new hair I found from [Gauze] called Relia. I definitely felt exotic.

So there you go! All these locations can be found easily in Search so please take time to check out these stores.

The post ellantha Larsson doesn't want you to see! (due to modesty)

I can't in any good conscience claim to be a piercings afficionado. Having my ears pierced in RL triggered my having allergies to EVERYTHING, so I stopped there, and I'm not much better in SL. Although, that's for different reasons. When I started in SL, I had this freebie set of piercings that I thought was AWESOME. It was supersuper basic, just a bunch of little rings stuck to the face, but I wore the lip ring and eyebrow ring constantly with asymmetric pride. At some point I discovered that things like hats would knock them off, and then when I finally discovered prim eyelashes, and facelights, and all the other trappings of fashion (note: I don't wear facelights anymore), it was hasta la vista piercings, and I rarely looked back. Thing is, most piercings in Second Life are either too basic for me to want to forego my various facial attachments for, or too...well...too pointy. It doesn't really follow, to me, that if I want to put pixellated metal through my pixellated face, I should want to pixellated impale everyone within a 10 yard (pixellated) radius. Also named too technically. I'm a novice, I don't know what things are called! So, for the most part, I abstained from the piercings. As I have previously mentioned here, I have a creepy, almost stalkerish (if accidentally occasionally being at the same place at the same time as a person and then obsessively camming over and 'Inspecting' everything they're wearing counts as stalking, anyway) admiration for the personal style of Miss ellantha Larsson. Particularly intregued I was upon spotting her a few months ago by her piercings, which were delicate and original and at the same time hardcore and....piercingy. Upon inspection I discovered were self-made, and eagerly profile stalked in search of a store. Alas, there was none. That is until a month or so ago, when I spotted on the venerable Free*Style blog, a lip ring from a store named ::ellabella::. Could it be?! Ran there I did, and sure enough, ellantha had opened a store, and in it was the dollarbie Garnet Lovin' lip ring (on left in top left picture), a delicate jewelled double lip ring that looked almost like fangs, with a little triple-heart charm hanging down on one side, and a double chin piercing thingy (see, I told you I was no expert on what these things are called) which I snapped right up. Also to buy were the Skully Lip Chains (on the left in the second pic), an assortment of rings piercing the lower lip, linked together with a dainty chain, with a teeeny tiiiiny liiiiittle skull hanging from a chain on the one side. When I next visited the store to buy the Starry Lip Chains (top pic on the right), a less morbid version of the Skully ones, I spotted she'd set up a Subscribe-o-matic, and clicked it for all I was worth. A few days later a gift came through on it which made me SQUEAL! The Rainbow Ravin' set (second pic, right), which, as the notecard warned, required some adjusting to fit me properly, but is SO PRETTY! A single wide ring in the centre of the lip, dotted with four little brightly coloured, slightly glowing dots, and a rainbow star dangling from it, with fine diagonal double-rings on each side, plus a ring at the centre of the nose with a little blue ball captive, and then four little bindi-ish piercings between the eyes in matching colours to the ones on the lip ring. It only comes on the Nose attachment point, but this was easily something worth losing my eyelashes for! With it was a note of a new release, Cog Me, which is simple steampunky greatness, a triple lip ring set, with fine chains linking all three, and a little cog hanging from the middle, plus a plain nose ring. All ::ellabella:: piercing sets (apart from Rainbow Ravin') come on three attachment points, Chin, Mouth and Nose, which is epic win in itself, given my previous whines about my precious prim lashes. Out of the box, the metals are dark, but I've tinted mine a lighter colour apart from Cog Me. ::ellabella:: also has a shapes section, featuring some really beautiful, unique and quirky shapes. But I don't but shapes, so you'll have to take my word for it and go look. They're yummy.

Also for some reason I've been wearing this outfit for days, so I figured I should talk about it. Starting at the top with silentsparrow's Shruggie in Creme, which is the main thing I havn't taken off, I bought the uber pack, and want it melded onto my skin, plz. I'm a big fan of shrugs, in RL too, and this one just makes me happy in my pants. It's softly textured in a chenille sort of knit, and looks all soft and warm and yumcious, fastened at the front with dainty metal hooks and eyes, and with a nice chunky turtle-neck, and sculpted bell sleeves, striped in a way that reminds me delightfully of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Underneath it is the cupcake tank from Elate!, an opening gift from her shiny new mainstore on the Cupcake sim (which I'm thoroughly in love with), which might just be up and running now, maybe, perhaps. Added to it, is Canimal's Lowrise Cargos, in the Boxer version cos I don't want everyone seeing my bottom, and Urban Bomb Unit's Pornstar Hi-Tops, which everyone should have.

The Romance of Giselle by Mer-Elf Creations

Sorry that I have no clever and catchy title. But maybe sometimes being to the point is a good thing.

Morgaine Price of Mer-Elf Creations sent me her newest release to review. She calls this Giselle and it includes tons of options, such as 3 corsets, 4 types of sleeves, a narrow and wide prim skirt as well as a wide prim skirt with a sheer overlay. I was a bit overwhelmed with all the great options given, but finally parred it down to 2 looks.

This first is the Gown with Corset, wide sheer skirt, and long sheer sleeve. Her skirts also have sitter scripts in them that can be reset or even turned off. The belt is separate from the gown and took some adjusting. Though Morgaine does include a couple of shape options in the pack as well.

With the detail of this gown I chose to use simple accessories and chose a delicate silver shell charm with matching pearl earrings.

Though there are so many great outerwear options, I think my favorite is the lingerie that lies beneath.

Morgaine has this pretty baby doll attachment in long and short. Or you can just wear it as a bra and pantie set with garters.

Giselle is 599L and comes in 9 lovely colors.

So please take a moment to check out her store and see this and other lovely designs.

Brand Addiction: silent sparrow

One of my biggest inventory folders in SL (and I have a LOT, my inventory is an unweildly sort of place) is that of silent sparrow. I have a severe compulsion to the works of hyasynth Tiramisu. It's not the cheapest of addictions, but heavens, it's worth it, and keeps me out of blowing all my money in gin parlours, or something. When I decided to devote a post to one of my favourite designers, my head span somewhat. What to wear? No, seriously. WHAT TO WEAR?!?! I estimate that I've bought at least 70% of the products in her store in at least one colour. And if it's less than that, I've got some shopping to do! When people think of silent sparrow, I think the first thing that springs to mind are the gorgeous suits and gowns hyasynth makes, with their hypnotic hand-drawn textures, luscious contrasts of black and jewel tones, and a deeply romantic gothic bent. And so, being as I am, I decided in the end to show some of her less-travelled gems.

Raies Suite

The very first thing I bought from silent sparrow was the raies suite, back in the mists of time somewhere in 2007. I forgot how I discovered the store in my wanderings, but the instant I walked in, I was hooked, by the beautiful ramshackle house and overgrown garden of the build, by the atmospheric lighting, and oh...by the amazing clothes. All of it was like nothing I'd ever encountered before in SL, despite my haunting of 'goth' shops, and I wanted it all . The only downside was, I couldn't afford anything in there on my 10L$ an hour dancer's wage. I left, sadly, but never forgot it. Generous tipping enabled me to save up a little, and one day, I crept back into the store with the intent to buy SOMETHING. Anything. I just needed it. I must have agonized for about an hour, wearing a path in the floor as I wandered round the store until I decided. The raies suite, with it's serious pinstripes, sexy buckles and straps, and dainty demi-skirt. That was the outfit for me. It remains one of my favourites to this day. As do a lot of older silent sparrow outfits. The style just doesn't age, the amazing texture work keeps getting more and more amazing, but it started out from a pretty damn amazing base. hyasynth's older outfits are NOT to be overlooked. Really. They're amazing.

Meat Cake

Okay, what's NOT to love about Meat Cake? Shown to the right in Buttercream, this dress makes me hungry just looking at it. But first...look at it! The style of it is so delightful in itself, bringing to mind innocent days in the former half of the last century, with it's sweet little v-neck bolero jacket, and vintage pastel tea-dress stylings (the skirt comes in two lengths, for if you want to be even more demure), dainty little short gloves, and delicately patterned stockings. And the pattern? Could it be flowers? Butterflies? No. Why, it's meat, of course! Delicious meat! Chops, and drumsticks, and bacon, and, I think I even see some ham in there! It's like being in some wonderful 1950s Meat Advisory Council promotion. I deeply love that sort of thing. See how happy I am in that picture? In my dress, with my meat? (meat courtesy of Tableau). That's history working it's magic, right there!

RoseNoir Limited Edition (#29, in my case)

hyasynth's limited editions are legendary. Or at least, if they're not, they bloody well should be. *stubborn face*. You see, when there is a silent sparrow limited edition release, it's not just a pile of boxes in a store, it's an EVENT. A hunt. A hunt in the truest sense of the word, free of cheat sheets, asking for help, and all the standard trappings of the modern Second Life treasure hunt. In waves, to compensate for global time-differences, small batches of strictly limited-edition colours of a recently released outfit are put out, some of which totalling to only 25, and then the hunt is on to buy these rare, beautiful outfits, packaged in animals, in the case of the most recent, spikey hedgepigs. Proudly I can report that I bought the full set, the Noir sets being close to my heart as I had the greatest honour of being in the store ad for the unlimited version, RougeNoir. It's one of hyasynth's most versitile sets, and the colours pop against the black lines making the patterns look like light shining through bold stained glass.

silent sparrow is for Life, not just for Gothmas!

Because hyasynth's style can't really be categorized, 'gothic' could never capture the scope of her work. And it's amazing fun to mix up into other outfits, too. My personal favourite mashup of entirely silent sparrow clothes was worn by ellantha Larsson at a silent sparrow party (my god I love those parties) once, where most of us seemingly used some kind of group ESP and wore purple, and ellantha fitted something together using parts I would never have thought of, to create a look I became thoroughly obsessed with. I bought all the outfits she used in her look, and have had endless joy with them. This picture is NOT that look. It lives forever jealously guarded in my mind, as an illustration of how versitile everything from silent sparrow can be if you care enough to admire all the pieces individually for the work of art that each part is. (speaking of art, you can buy SL copies of RL art by hyasynth, Jessica Ornitz and Aimee Weber at silent sparrow, which I highly recommend doing, cos, well, wow). My yummy casual look is comprised of silent sparrow's Snug Cardigan in Lime, jeans from Ryou in Dove, Fond Affections Bustier in Silver, tattoo from the Fog Limited Edition Devana set, and my feathered friends are Possum in Grape, on my hand, and Cloudy Possum on my shoulder, a SuperUltraRare custom fishing prize at the silent sparrow sim. Which you should visit anyway, because it's breathtakingly gorgeous.

My point in this epic post is this: silent sparrow rules. You should shop there.

A Tribue to Persephone

Ahoy! It is I, Nivaya Barbosa, newly-appointed other blogger for Dressing in Pixels.

Ah, but Perse flatters me with her welcoming post. The truth is, I owe a great deal of who I am in SL now, to her. In a lot of ways, if I was the kind of person who did SL families (I'm not) I would consider Perse my SL mom. She's been there for me since...ooh, let's say, day 8? I met her when I was around a week old, when I started working at the same club as her, and immediately looked up to her as a role model. She was the one who made me appreciate the importance of having good quality things, of accessorizing, of generally making an effort. Gosh I wanted to be her when I grew up. She was always one step above me on the promotions ladder in the club, shortly after I became a dancer, she became a host, when I became a host, she became a manager. And she spoiled me. It was her who bought me my first silks (what? They're PRETTY!), when I had no idea what silks were, and I still have a picture of that day, me, her, and another friend, all thinking we were the coolest people in the world in our red silks (!), when in reality, Perse's avatar desperately needed to eat a sandwich (or 5), mine needed a strong course of iron tablets, and as for our other friend....well. Watermelon ass doesn't begin to cover it.

Failed relationships, successful relationships, abandonment by (watermelon-assed) friends, my promotion to 'junior manager' of the club, shared recipes for sweet potato casserole, we went through a lot together before I really began to really feel like I was her equal.

As time passed, our own styles diversified, and at the height of this phenomenon, I took to teasingly calling her 'mom', much to her disdain. Next to her trend at the time for wearing classic vintagewear, pencil skirts, blouses, jackets, highwaist pants, perfectly matching colours and her hair in immaculate updos, my quirky eclectic neko-without-the-cat-bits look really did make her and I standing next to each other look like a conservative mother and her rebellious teenage daughter.

Eventually, the club we worked in closed down, and she and I made a brave (but ultimately unsuccessful) stab at the world of shape-making and image consultancy, before going our seperate ways, me, to focus on modelling, Perse to make her home and career in a medieval fantasy land. Happily we are both awesome. Other stuff happened in between, but that was mostly boring, the point is, we've both now developed our own unique and fantastic senses of style, based at least some on the times we've spent together. And now she sometimes even comes to me for fashion advice! And so, for my first post in Dressing in Pixels, I would like to present my homage to the many styles of Persephone Paine, my host, my mentor, my confidante, and my friend (also SL mom...but I don't do SL families...Shh!)
