In The Spotlight: MIEL

Niv's turn for some spotlighty goodness! This week Emee has prodded me out of my blogger hibernation, and with good reason, to continue the brand new but surely will be proud and classic tradition of Monday's In The Spotlight spot....light. In The Spotlight will showcase stores that the Dressing In Pixels team consider outstandingly lovely in terms of design, texturing, and general loveliness, while trying to stay away from strongly established brand names. My own personal extra criteria is that when I walk into the store for the first time, I am overwhelmed with the urge to buy it all up and to hell with the financial consequences. With this, my shiny spotlight falls upon a store we found on the Cupcake sim, Miel. Also, a honey cupcake sounds really good right now.

Due to my severe laziness, I had only heard about Miel the other day, with their prize on the Skipping Stones hunt, which I went "Oh cute! I should go looking there!" and then being extraordinarily absent-minded, forgot all about. It was only when I went on an exploratory stroll of Cupcake with Persephone and Emee that I actually found it again and went "Oh cute! I should buy everything!". Which neatly filled my above criteria and indeed I spent like a trooper. The designs are oh-so-very cute, and attention to detail on the clothing is just wonderful.

I've chosen to showcase their SF outfit in Coal. It consists of a babydollish sculpted tunic, with pockets with optional flowers in. FLOWERS! Flowers in my pocket! You see how I was sold by this concept. It's eccentric, cute, and yet rather elegant all at once. Marvellous! Worn with it is the matching shorts, with beautifully made little ties at the thighs, hand-drawn alpha textures that actually make sense as a bow when you zoom in on them. I love it when things look like what they're supposed to look like. It seems like such a simple thing, but it's really a mark of epic win when hand-drawn. All the wrinkles on the clothing are just right, which is another biggie with me, they're not just put there for the sake of it, or not at all, I dig some good wrinkles. I did have to enlarge the prims quite a bit to accomodate my curvylady hips, and belly, but that's what I get for eating all those prim cookies. With the outfit, I'm wearing the WPGIII Scarf in Maroon, sold seperately but a perfect accent to the dress, sophisticated and contrasting and long enough to wrap around an elephant. Being able to wrap things around elephants is not one of my important criteria, but I appreciate it in a scarf. I have my reasons. Trust me. You don't want to know.

Also delicious are Miel's shoes. I'm a sucker for wedges and mary-jane style shoes, and Miel's JANE shoes are all these things and more! Yes, more than two things! They come in three styles, FLOR, which I am wearing in the picture, with sculpted flowers, MONO, a plain style, and a plaid striped style which I suck too much to remember the name of, but dude! They're COLOUR CHANGE. Each style has three different colour styles to buy, a bright, a pastelly light and a neutral-ish, and various parts of the shoe can be colour-changed to glorious mix n' match....glory. To go with these supershoes, cute knee socks, in the same styles and colour choices, with the sculpted top of the socks equally colour change and versitile and infinitely win! I bought the Brights in both cases, in the spirit of breaking out of my box of...mostly black.
On my head, I sport Miel's AM TULIP headband, which has a matching skirt and top, buyable separately and really, how could I resist? I love tulips! And that's another thing I love about the store. various little accessories really complete each outfit, while remaining tasteful and yummily affordable.

So'anyway, I heartily recommend Miel to anyone with a sense for quirky eccentric quality and awesomeness and lovely things and am very quite glad that my absentmindedness didn't stop me from discovering this store. It's love. Sweet, honeysome love. Visit Miel at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cupcake/242/212/37

Philotic Energy at Hair Fair

OK, totally loving these 3 styles from Aemilia Case of Philotic Energy! She has been a fave of mine since I bought my first hair from her called Ariadne. One of the best short hairstyles out there I think.

First up is her Lilya Hair! 50% of the Proceeds on this Hair go to Locks of Love. The hat is color change too!

Next up is Keeva with her cute curly buns and scarf.

A vast majority of my hair has bangs. But I really like the way she has this done so the hair looks more natural and not a helmet.

Last I think is my favorite called Pepper. I will let the picture do the talking.

These can all be found at the Hair Fair. She also has Demo's in her store and on XLStreet.

Hair Fair is still pretty packed, but it goes on for 2 weeks so you have time!

More to come as I try on stuff!

Just a Little Taste of Hair Fair 2009 Offerings

This has to be my favorite event of the year! In RL I have this baby fine straight-ish hair that can't hold a cur or volume without mass application of hair product. So I live for offerings of hair SL has to offer.

I know its going to be lag-tastic, so I am going to wait a bit before hitting the festivities. In the meantime a couple of lovely designers let me have a Sneaky Peek of their hair fair offerings. Rather then go into an advance written description, I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

First up is Designer Sakuradawn Lei of Lazy Places

This is my first experience with Lazy Places hair and I am very pleased. I love the color-change streaks and bangs that give the hair a whimsical look.

Dawn in Brown

Deeba in Auburn (Ginger Bang)

Arya in Black (Blue/Yellow bangs)

Then we have designer Catty Loon with Audacity. Catty sent me several hairs in her brown tones. These hair's have resizer scripts which I personally love. Especially the fact I can just resize 1 prim at a time for the perfect fit.

Tara in Espresso

Nali in Darkest Chocolate

Ethel in Mahogany

Hair Fair begins a Midnight SLT on June 20. That is just a few hours from now.

Get those low lag outfits, take of your scripted objects and bling. I also highly recommend setting your graphics to low if you have a lot of problem. Or if you are patient, give it a couple of days to let the initial rush pass. The event will be happening for 2 weeks.

Don't forget to to look for those hairs in which the proceeds of their sale go to Locks of Love!

See you at the Fair!

Bring back the Bathing Beauties!

Living in Florida, Hot weather usually makes its appearance well before the actual first day of Summer. In fact I have been enjoying a nice pool with 84 Degree water since early May. So I decided its time to feature some swimsuits. A first I did try to take pictures in my little box of a sky studio, but something was missing. So I opened up the handy dandy search button to find some SL Beaches. This was not as easy as I hoped, but I was able to find some interesting Locales to pose on.

Today I have 3 great suits to show off:

My first is the new Tyna Swimsuit from .:Naive:. This one piece is classic and elegant. Even better she gives 2 options in the folder, Black or White with a colored belt.

For something a bit more bright and fun I have the new Redkini from Filthy~Pussy, Inc, or ::FP:: as I like to call it. The designer is still fairly new to the clothing scene but I found the shading she did on this to be amazing! A big plus the bottom of this bikini does not involve butt floss. It still shows a bit of tush but isn't quite skimpy enough to call it a thong.

This last suit I came upon at the Zaara Sale and fell in love. This suit can be worn with or without the shirt, plus it comes with great black knee length knickers as well. I have chosen to keep the shirt on to make this more like a Tankini.

So whatever your bathing suit style is, one of the designers in SL is sure to have it! Links to featured items are ble See you at the beach!

The Face of Beauty

In RL skin is the biggest organ of the body. In SL it can enhance your shape and face making you unique.

Sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve has released a new skin in Evolution line called Beauty. Beauty is the first skin she has created that give the option of a hair base with prim bun attachment or now hair.

Those of us in the fashion world or shopping nuts appreciate being able to go to a high lag area with lower prims. (Hair Fair 2009 is coming soon you know)

The Rainbow Make-up (above) is a great springtime look that is colorful without being to over the top. I think I may have to go shopping to find something flowing and chiffon-like to wear.

Nude (Above) is the perfect everyday look.

The body has great shading and subtle highlights. Since I know some may view this from a non-home computer I have opted to be a little shy.

Sachi has informed me that this skin will be in 4 skin tones with bald and hair options (with prim bun attachment). Also included are pubic hair layer, manicure, pedicure and eyebrow shaper.

Plus, she is in the process of creating different hair base colors with different ethnicities. If you would like to see more of the lovely details, I highly encourage you to TP over to Adam and Eve and check out a demo for yourself. Beauty is available for purchase now.

Sachi also gave me a sneak at a release due later this week. This exotic Egyptian look is just great. Her highlights are great on this darker skin tone. The features shine through. This skin also comes bald or with hair and prim bun attachment.

I will admit this is my first Adam n Eve skin. I tend to gravitate to more photo-realistic skins and this fits the bill fantastically. I am glad Sachi gave this fairly new blogger a break.

An Appreciation for the Classics

Today, I fell quite in love with Sand Shack Surf Co's new skins. While I hadn't been too sure if I liked how they looked on some others I'd seen wearing them, the moment the demo rezzed on me, I was sold. In my middle-years of Second Life, I almost exclusively wore Antonia Marat's handdrawn Lily skins from Artilleri. No other skin would tempt me, those were MY skins, I adored them. Until of course, some other skin did tempt me, and I fell into the deep pit of being a skin whore, and when I finally went back to my Lily skins, they seemed so blank and cartoonish to me, and they were guiltily forgotten. When I tried on Emma Gilmour's new skinline, it felt like coming home, and I instantly snapped up every makeup. I just looked so pretty, and innocent, and so *Niv*, the Niv I remembered from a time when buying skins and hair and clothes and shoes and everything was a major event, and I'd scrimp and save and laugh and play and all those other happy cliches from my salad days. After all, I can't do sexy. I'm cute. Cute cute cute! Completely reawakened my love for handdrawn skins. And handily happened to tie in with my thoughts of yesterday.

Those thoughts were: "Quality never goes out of style". I was going throgh one of my larger inventory folders earlier, in the naive hope of organizing it some, and I kept coming across all these designers who you never hear anything of anymore. Like, for years. And a quick check confirmed that most of them were still around, or at least still had stores open in SL, even if not active anymore, and their stuff is still SO GOOD, however old it might be. So my looks today are composed of (with maybe one? exception, aside from my lovely new skins) things that have been lying around in my inventory for years, and still rock. And I'm pretty sure are still available (I've tried to steer clear of some of my obvious favourites that are very much no longer around, such as Last Call and Savvy?).

My first look (above) is comprised of capris from Celestial Studios, which is one of my biggest cases of "Appreciation for the Classics", I still wear their skins alllllthetime, even though they were the skin of choice when I started SL, and seldom heard of now. My top is from a dress from Versteck, a store which I own pretty much all of, but didn't even realize was still around until I saw a post on Ana Lutetia's blog about some of their new releases. The cardigan is from Icing's Robot Love dress, which isn't that old and I believe was a hunt item, but gosh I adore it so, and the sandals are Fashionably Dead, long a beautiful handdrawn mainstay of my inventory, which I don't feel gets quite as much press as it should. And the hair is by Maitreya, from back in the days when they weren't so ubiquitous as hairmakers.

Secondly, a dress from a store long long inactive, but I was delighted to discover still has a location open. Argyle is a store I discovered in late 2007, about a week before the designer seemingly vanished from the face of the grid. Initially I loved Argyle for it's myriad vintagey gloves, scarves, and a neat-o suitcase with versions you could carry or sit on, what reminded me of them though was finding this dress, simple, unexpectedly elegant and a bit quirky, with exquisite texturing, like the whole store. The shoes are Jeepers Creepers' Lace Up Betties, a version of the first *good* shoes I ever bought in SL, and despite predating scupties, they continue to be a testement to how much things that were great back when they first came out can still be wonderful and current and stand up to all of today's shiny new awesomeness. And the hair, oh, the hair. I remember a time when this was one of perhaps three hairstyles I owned in Second Life, and Gurl 6 was the only hair store for me. Although today her textures may seem a little dated, my Gurl 6 folder still contains some of the most original, vibrant and versatile styles I own.

Finally, an outfit from a store that's very much still around, still active, but doesn't recieve nearly as much press as it used to. Nyte N Day used to be one of those stores all my friends used to obsess over, and now is all-but forgotten. And that's a pity, because their textures are beautiful, their prices good, and especially for basics, and components for mixing up your own outfits, they really are flawless. My shoes are Aphrodite Creations' Vintish, AC having been a massive staple of my shoe folder in times past, and are yummy. Gurl 6 for the hair again, another old favourite of mine, pleasantly informal and hippy-ish, with delighful curlybits at the ends.

A dive into your inventory can produce some great forgotten treasures, for those days when you're feeling a bit nostalgic, or just for awesomeness with the classics. Like the kind I have.

Making Filthy Feel Good!

My friend Elysia Mai has just opened her first shop in SL called Filthy*Pussy. The name is a bit extreme I know but once you get beyond it you will find cute stuff with a bit of edge to it. Her store is small with just a few items, but she is busy creating new designs every day! I made a point to be her first store customer and grabbed a couple of items before she had time to just send them too me.

This skull ribbon sweater has to be my favorite of her items. She includes a pair of capri/tights on a pants layer but I chose to combine it with leggings I got from the .:Malt:. hunt last week.

I am also wearing on of the new hairs by Aemelia Case of Philotic Energy. This one is called Stephanie. I really love the little tendrils and the fall in the back that makes it less formal.

Another cute little dress she has done is call the bubblegum dress.. Sweetheart pink with a touch of tulle and a black corset with buckles.

With all that pink its really easy to overload on the cute meter. I don't know if I helped or hindered by adding the star tights from Bingo and the Sweater Boots that were a group gift from Sweeter Than Candy.

You may recognize the new ETD hair from my earlier post.

My last pics were inspired not only by this hair from Philotic Energy but seeing Gilles dance the Argentine Tango on "Dancing With the Stars" (My drooling really bruised the boyfriends ego) But really it wasn't so much Gilles that did it it was the overall dance! I would love to dance a tango with that kind of beauty and passion.

This dress is by Kellie Iwish of Elate! Perfect for an evening of dancing I combined it with shoes from Maitreya a dramatic skin from Curio and this gorgeous Portia Hair. I just love that flower!

So here ends this post. If you like any of these places the SURL is attached to the store names within the blog above.

Now, I need to convince my partner to log in and tango the night away. See you all soon!

PS. If you aren't doing anything Sunday at 6 PM SLT come dancing with me at Triskele for my weekly Sunday Social featuring Club69 Radio DJ Wyldchild Raven. No prizes and no scantily clad dances to tip. Just fantastic time dancing to good music and socializing with great people. This week the Theme is A Semi-Formal/Formal Dance so get out your tuxedos, suits dresses or evening gowns. Click here to join us at Wintersong Woode in Triskele!

When I was a noob, I spake as a noob, I understood as a noob, I thought as a noob..

...but when I became a few weeks old, I put away noobish things. (blasphamously paraphrased from 1 Corinthians 13:11)

Yesterday was my Second rezday in SL. I would have posted this then, but I only realized it was indeed the 23rd, somewhat late in the day, and I'm lazy. I can remember that day all to clearly though. An aquaintance of mine, from a Sims forum, hadn't been around much, and when she popped in, she explained that she'd been playing Second Life, and recieved much mocking for it. A few others admitted that they too had accounts, and so I decided I should go see what it was all about. In those days, I was familiar mostly with mmorpgs, cheap ones at that, Runescape, for example, and so once I'd signed up (I messed up on the signup form, Barbosa was my second choice of last name, after I locked the one I wanted), I diligently went through the tutorial sections on Orientation Island. To your left-ish, you will see the first ever photograph taken of Nivaya Barbosa (at 5.41pm, indeed). Of the four tutorials, the first I went for was Appearance, and took it quite seriously, treasuring my free chainmail shirt, and tweaking and tinting and flaring and generally 'customizing' myself with a freedom I was quite unaccustomed to, until I came to a look I was sure would be considered perfectly acceptable and even quite beautiful, once I'd finished the tutorials. I certainly didn't look like the rest of my fellow noobs on the island. I sailed through the rest of the mission-based tasks the Lindens gave me to prepare me fully for my new life (flying took a bit of getting the hang of), and went mainlanding! I landed in Korea 2, in a lagpile the likes of which are rarely seen these days, a mass of grey bodies on top of each other, unable to move or fly, there was a person wearing a box you could click, and all sorts of confusion. Eventually I used my new-found flying skills to escape to somewhere empty-looking, and employing the power of SEARCH, looked for Newcomer-Friendly places, with the keyword 'Free'. I ended up at Curious Kitties, where I found all sorts of pretty things I was sure I'd never ever be able to afford (ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MONIES?!). It wasn't until relatively recently I realised that the avatar I'd started out with, and right away, let's be honest, destroyed, in my zeal to make my own things(!), Haragyaru Female, was made by Ameshin Yossarian, the very person whose things I'd longed for in those early minutes. So, to make amends for my noobish ignorance, here I am, rocking the clothes I was born in, with my own shape, a rather more up-to-date skin, and the system hair tinted to my beloved red.

As the minutes passed, I discovered there were chairs I could sit on for a few minutes that would give me free money (gold? dollars? I had no idea what the money was called), and even better, that there were places where people went and danced, and one of them, The Space Lounge, had a sign you could click and then keep walking around, and it would STILL give you free money, if you stayed near it. I constantly wore freebie wings, a cigarette, and a Space Lounge Bling Necklace I won. Life was good. It was when I started working there, that I met Persephone, and, a short while later, the man who I ended up marrying in the RLz. Slowly, I learned the value of prim hair (thank you Gurl6), changing ones clothes, and, rather later than most, I must confess, non-system skins.

I like to think I've come a long way in two years.

Low ARC FTW!

It's that time of year again folks! Now we're running out of holidays to overcelebrate in Second Life, the Fair cycle is beginning! What this means for us, in the very shortest terms, is lag, and lots of it. There are a lot of things you can do clientside to make life a little easier, the simplest of which being to turn your graphics settings down to looooow. The next thing you can do, for yourself, is, for the love of all the little pixels, prim down. There are always disputes on this matter, there are the people who say "It's not what you're wearing, it's the scripts running on the sim", or "There are so many people here, taking my skirt off isn't going to help with the lag", personally, I'm of the school of thought of "every little helps". Exchanging your long flowing alpha curls for a sleek prim bob may not magically unlag a sim, but it does fractionally reduce the strain on the area, and that is a fact, one where if everyone worked together, instead of standing around complaining about the lag, could really make an tangible difference.

So really, it's the time of year where bloggers and strangers lecture you about being considerate to your fellow avatars, and stripping off some prims. I will be no exception.

I will admit right now, that there are laggy occasions where, yes, you DO care what you look like. No-one (no-one stylish, at least) likes being bald and barefoot in public. Call it paranoia, but I, for one, like to feel like I don't look as if I've just waddled off of Help Island when I go to a fashion show, for example. So, it helps to know what things in your inventory carry a low Avatar Rendering Cost. ARC is not the be-all-and-end-all of lag-reduction, it's a flawed system, but using a combination of it, and common sense, can really help you put together something suitable for a laggy occasion. Prims are not the Enemy, but there are certain properties of prims that are. Flex is the obvious one, and tinyprims (like you'll find in most jewelry), scupties are less than ideal but sometimes a nessessary evil (as we'll see), alpha textures and invisiprims are NOT your friend here, and illuminated prims, glow, and bling/particles are very definitely no-go for this sort of thing (and in general, shame on you, bling wearer). It also seems to help psychologically if your clothes are good quality, with care put into their textures and lines, just to abate the whole 'I FEEL NAKED WITHOUT MY PRIM CUFFS' noobish feeling.

Nivaya's 55 ARC outfit - For me, the trick is to convince myself wearing a lot. Sure, I could venture forth in some jeans and a t-shirt, but if I did that, I may as well just don a nice low-lag solid black skin like some sort of awesome ninja and not bother at all. As it stands, for this outfit, I've tried to make as much use of layers as I possibly can. My corset and capris are on the underwear layers, the belt in two parts on the shirt and pants layer (funny story, I didn't notice until I was doing the credits for this that I was wearing parts of two different belts, but hey, it looks okay, I won't tell if you don't), and the coat on jacket and skirt layers. The ornamentation on the belt helps me feel a bit dressed-up and negates my need for jewelry a bit, the open stitches on the shoulders of the coat, and the tail, makes the outfit feel a little more substancial while still being a bit quirky. The hair, I love. It's from the GNUbie store, and is one of Pudge's older styles. The version I'm wearing in the picture is a copy I've modified, I've removed the spiral curls from the sides, which left the ARC of the hair the same (16) but as people are always banging on about, twisted torii produce much more lag than...I dunno. A box maybe. Point is, I feel a bit more smug having taken this step. Also, glove manicures, to help the ensemble feel /finished/.

Persephone's 46 ARC outfit - Perse outdid me! She ACTUALLY outdid me! I was properly scandalized. It comes down to the shoes, in this case. The Baby Monkey Ballet Flats I chose are a dainty 3 prims, whereas Perse's Shiny Things Ballet Flats are a hefty 16, but the difference comes in the types of prims they are. You see, mine are scupties, Perse's are regular prims. And the fact that my shoes are sculpted makes them a whole 9 ARC points higher than Perse's. That said, they're still pretty hard to beat as far as shoes go. For her outfit, Perse has gone a less complicated route than I, favouring comfortable casual simplicity, with a yummy use of colour, and as ever, great quality. I believe she even forsook her beloved prim pant cuffs. The real surprise for me came with her hair, Diversity's Brat, which clocked in at the same ARC as mine, 16, despite being rather more elaborate. So in this case, I am forced to bow to Perse's superiour low ARC-ing, due to my forgetting to take sculpts into account. Well done and fair play to you, lovely.

Of course, there are occasions where you don't care quite so desperately what you look like. Things like fairs and expos and extremely crowded hunts, where you're just another 'body', and everyone's mostly concentrating on trying to get textures to rez, or as was the case at the recent 7Seas Fishaversary, catching fish in a sim crammed to the gills (ba-dum-tchhhh) with people running fishing scripts. And that's when it pays to have a less lovely, but rather more streamlined outfit. Still staying clear of ninja skins...

Niv's 1 ARC outfit - The basis of this outfit is the skin. It's an Eloh mod I made around the time of Hair Fair last year. My original plan had been to edit it so that it would have a shaved head effect, I'm not scared of pulling a Britney, I just don't want to look so pedestrian as to have just plain taken my hair off and left it at that. Unfortunately, it turns out the reason there are so few skins with hair or stubble on the head is that it's extremely, incredibly difficult to do. Not that I'm any expert in these matters, but the seams, the boundries, and getting it all to look even...wow. Gave me a whole new type of respect for skinners who can pull it off. So instead, I modified my plan, and decided to tie it in with the system mohawk I had made some while ago during a craze for making Allegory Malaprop style 'hawks to make system hair a little more paletable, and added some colourful tattoos on the head, to match the overlong rainbow eyelashes and painted-on bindi I'd put on it for an effect of 'something'. The other thing here that most fashionistas wouldn't dream of wearing, and probably couldn't find in this day and age, is system boots. These were one of very first things I picked up when I started Second Life, almost two years ago, and have been trusty emergencywear since, they don't look too bad...as long as you don't look too hard, or from the side, or...POINT IS, I'm not barefoot here. With this, some clothes with buttloads of detail in the texture, like the jacket, and the jeans, and I've managed to throw together a look that actually almost is wearable in public, sort of. Also, I have once more outdone Perse!

So, yeah. Go low prim. It's not hard, it does help reduce at least your own lag and you get to feel a bit self-righteous about it while not actually looking too horrible. Mm.

The post ellantha Larsson doesn't want you to see! (due to modesty)

I can't in any good conscience claim to be a piercings afficionado. Having my ears pierced in RL triggered my having allergies to EVERYTHING, so I stopped there, and I'm not much better in SL. Although, that's for different reasons. When I started in SL, I had this freebie set of piercings that I thought was AWESOME. It was supersuper basic, just a bunch of little rings stuck to the face, but I wore the lip ring and eyebrow ring constantly with asymmetric pride. At some point I discovered that things like hats would knock them off, and then when I finally discovered prim eyelashes, and facelights, and all the other trappings of fashion (note: I don't wear facelights anymore), it was hasta la vista piercings, and I rarely looked back. Thing is, most piercings in Second Life are either too basic for me to want to forego my various facial attachments for, or too...well...too pointy. It doesn't really follow, to me, that if I want to put pixellated metal through my pixellated face, I should want to pixellated impale everyone within a 10 yard (pixellated) radius. Also named too technically. I'm a novice, I don't know what things are called! So, for the most part, I abstained from the piercings. As I have previously mentioned here, I have a creepy, almost stalkerish (if accidentally occasionally being at the same place at the same time as a person and then obsessively camming over and 'Inspecting' everything they're wearing counts as stalking, anyway) admiration for the personal style of Miss ellantha Larsson. Particularly intregued I was upon spotting her a few months ago by her piercings, which were delicate and original and at the same time hardcore and....piercingy. Upon inspection I discovered were self-made, and eagerly profile stalked in search of a store. Alas, there was none. That is until a month or so ago, when I spotted on the venerable Free*Style blog, a lip ring from a store named ::ellabella::. Could it be?! Ran there I did, and sure enough, ellantha had opened a store, and in it was the dollarbie Garnet Lovin' lip ring (on left in top left picture), a delicate jewelled double lip ring that looked almost like fangs, with a little triple-heart charm hanging down on one side, and a double chin piercing thingy (see, I told you I was no expert on what these things are called) which I snapped right up. Also to buy were the Skully Lip Chains (on the left in the second pic), an assortment of rings piercing the lower lip, linked together with a dainty chain, with a teeeny tiiiiny liiiiittle skull hanging from a chain on the one side. When I next visited the store to buy the Starry Lip Chains (top pic on the right), a less morbid version of the Skully ones, I spotted she'd set up a Subscribe-o-matic, and clicked it for all I was worth. A few days later a gift came through on it which made me SQUEAL! The Rainbow Ravin' set (second pic, right), which, as the notecard warned, required some adjusting to fit me properly, but is SO PRETTY! A single wide ring in the centre of the lip, dotted with four little brightly coloured, slightly glowing dots, and a rainbow star dangling from it, with fine diagonal double-rings on each side, plus a ring at the centre of the nose with a little blue ball captive, and then four little bindi-ish piercings between the eyes in matching colours to the ones on the lip ring. It only comes on the Nose attachment point, but this was easily something worth losing my eyelashes for! With it was a note of a new release, Cog Me, which is simple steampunky greatness, a triple lip ring set, with fine chains linking all three, and a little cog hanging from the middle, plus a plain nose ring. All ::ellabella:: piercing sets (apart from Rainbow Ravin') come on three attachment points, Chin, Mouth and Nose, which is epic win in itself, given my previous whines about my precious prim lashes. Out of the box, the metals are dark, but I've tinted mine a lighter colour apart from Cog Me. ::ellabella:: also has a shapes section, featuring some really beautiful, unique and quirky shapes. But I don't but shapes, so you'll have to take my word for it and go look. They're yummy.

Also for some reason I've been wearing this outfit for days, so I figured I should talk about it. Starting at the top with silentsparrow's Shruggie in Creme, which is the main thing I havn't taken off, I bought the uber pack, and want it melded onto my skin, plz. I'm a big fan of shrugs, in RL too, and this one just makes me happy in my pants. It's softly textured in a chenille sort of knit, and looks all soft and warm and yumcious, fastened at the front with dainty metal hooks and eyes, and with a nice chunky turtle-neck, and sculpted bell sleeves, striped in a way that reminds me delightfully of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Underneath it is the cupcake tank from Elate!, an opening gift from her shiny new mainstore on the Cupcake sim (which I'm thoroughly in love with), which might just be up and running now, maybe, perhaps. Added to it, is Canimal's Lowrise Cargos, in the Boxer version cos I don't want everyone seeing my bottom, and Urban Bomb Unit's Pornstar Hi-Tops, which everyone should have.

The Romance of Giselle by Mer-Elf Creations

Sorry that I have no clever and catchy title. But maybe sometimes being to the point is a good thing.

Morgaine Price of Mer-Elf Creations sent me her newest release to review. She calls this Giselle and it includes tons of options, such as 3 corsets, 4 types of sleeves, a narrow and wide prim skirt as well as a wide prim skirt with a sheer overlay. I was a bit overwhelmed with all the great options given, but finally parred it down to 2 looks.

This first is the Gown with Corset, wide sheer skirt, and long sheer sleeve. Her skirts also have sitter scripts in them that can be reset or even turned off. The belt is separate from the gown and took some adjusting. Though Morgaine does include a couple of shape options in the pack as well.

With the detail of this gown I chose to use simple accessories and chose a delicate silver shell charm with matching pearl earrings.

Though there are so many great outerwear options, I think my favorite is the lingerie that lies beneath.

Morgaine has this pretty baby doll attachment in long and short. Or you can just wear it as a bra and pantie set with garters.

Giselle is 599L and comes in 9 lovely colors.

So please take a moment to check out her store and see this and other lovely designs.

A Tribue to Persephone

Ahoy! It is I, Nivaya Barbosa, newly-appointed other blogger for Dressing in Pixels.

Ah, but Perse flatters me with her welcoming post. The truth is, I owe a great deal of who I am in SL now, to her. In a lot of ways, if I was the kind of person who did SL families (I'm not) I would consider Perse my SL mom. She's been there for me since...ooh, let's say, day 8? I met her when I was around a week old, when I started working at the same club as her, and immediately looked up to her as a role model. She was the one who made me appreciate the importance of having good quality things, of accessorizing, of generally making an effort. Gosh I wanted to be her when I grew up. She was always one step above me on the promotions ladder in the club, shortly after I became a dancer, she became a host, when I became a host, she became a manager. And she spoiled me. It was her who bought me my first silks (what? They're PRETTY!), when I had no idea what silks were, and I still have a picture of that day, me, her, and another friend, all thinking we were the coolest people in the world in our red silks (!), when in reality, Perse's avatar desperately needed to eat a sandwich (or 5), mine needed a strong course of iron tablets, and as for our other friend....well. Watermelon ass doesn't begin to cover it.

Failed relationships, successful relationships, abandonment by (watermelon-assed) friends, my promotion to 'junior manager' of the club, shared recipes for sweet potato casserole, we went through a lot together before I really began to really feel like I was her equal.

As time passed, our own styles diversified, and at the height of this phenomenon, I took to teasingly calling her 'mom', much to her disdain. Next to her trend at the time for wearing classic vintagewear, pencil skirts, blouses, jackets, highwaist pants, perfectly matching colours and her hair in immaculate updos, my quirky eclectic neko-without-the-cat-bits look really did make her and I standing next to each other look like a conservative mother and her rebellious teenage daughter.

Eventually, the club we worked in closed down, and she and I made a brave (but ultimately unsuccessful) stab at the world of shape-making and image consultancy, before going our seperate ways, me, to focus on modelling, Perse to make her home and career in a medieval fantasy land. Happily we are both awesome. Other stuff happened in between, but that was mostly boring, the point is, we've both now developed our own unique and fantastic senses of style, based at least some on the times we've spent together. And now she sometimes even comes to me for fashion advice! And so, for my first post in Dressing in Pixels, I would like to present my homage to the many styles of Persephone Paine, my host, my mentor, my confidante, and my friend (also SL mom...but I don't do SL families...Shh!)

It's Good to be NAIVE!

I am embarrassed to say that I have known Leah McCullough for months and did not realize she was a designer and shop owner. She is a phenomenal photographer and a model too. So, the minute I found out I headed over to her shop .:NAIVE:.. Leah not only does Clothing but skins as well. The other day she gave me a preview of her new skin Camille in the Light tone. She has promised me a more tan tone is in the works.

Camille comes with 3 Make-Ups and 3 different tones of eyebrow, Light Blonde, Light Brunette and Light Dark. The eyebrows in the following pictures are here light brunette ones.

The eye makeup is also slightly different with each brow town to flatter.

She also did a great job on the body shading with soft natural highlights that accentuate rather then exaggerate. Plus, She did a great job on the fingernails and toenails. I don't have to wear a manicure of pedicure. Click here to see a Full Body Shot

Now onto the clothing. Yesterday I needed an outfit for a Scanty Panties Event. I really wanted lingerie that was fun and not buttfloss . This Bra and Pantie Set is called Comic! Its covered in Anime! Plus though not shown it has a tank top and gloves as well.

NAIVE is a definite place to check out. From Skin, to Lingerie, Casual Wear and Formal Wear she has something for every occasion. Be sure to grab her give in the back corner too. Specially created T-Shirts for those who just love to Plurk.
